Nilson Homes Proudly Hands Over the Keys to the Have A Heart Charity Home

On April 29th, 2009, Nilson Homes had the complete pleasure of handing over the keys to the Have A Heart Charity Home to a most deserving family. The Prieto family were all smiles as they accepted their new keys from Nilson Homes President and Owner, Bruce Nilson.

Marie Prieto explains that being able to purchase the Have A Heart home has been another “miracle” brought about by their daughter, Kaitlyn who was diagnosed with a rare metabolic disorder known as PKU (Phenylketunuria). When Kaitlyn was only four days old, the Prietos learned that she was lacking a certain enzyme that allows her to break down an amino acid found in foods with protein. Without this ability, the protein then becomes toxic in her brain and causes severe mental retardation, seizures, along with behavioral and emotion disorders. Because of Kaitlyn’s special low-protein diet, Kaitlyn has been able to thrive and grow like any other healthy little girl. This special diet, along with the medical care required for Kaitlyn, has been expensive for the Prieto family, and although this struggle is no doubt a difficult one, they are incredibly grateful for their daughter.

Everyone at Nilson Homes feels honored to have met the Preito family and be able to affect their lives in such a positive way. It truly was a team effort of the Nilson Homes staff along with many trade partners who donated their time and materials, the Northern Wasatch Association of Realtors, Northern Wasatch Homebuilders Association, Roy City, and All Home. Bruce Nilson commented that there has been an extra sense of pride and love that went into this Have A Heart Home project, which has been felt among all participants.
Nilson Homes, on behalf of all who were involved with the Have A Heart Home Project, would like to extend their most heartfelt congratulations to the Prieto family, and hope they will enjoy their new home for years to come.
